Safety is embedded into every layer of our operation—from training and fleet care to crew standards and flight execution.

Our Fleet

Tropic Ocean Airways operates a fleet of Cessna Grand Caravan EX Amphibian widely recognized for performance in over-water and island environments. These aircraft can land interchangeably on the water or runway.

Maintenance & Corrosion Prevention

Our aircraft receive daily, in-house maintenance performed under the direct supervision of Tropic’s Director of Maintenance, with more than 30 years of aviation maintenance experience.

Operating amphibious aircraft in saltwater environments requires specialized expertise. Tropic Ocean Airways is recognized as an industry leader in corrosion prevention and long-term aircraft preservation, an approach featured in a six-page editorial in Flying magazine highlighting Tropic’s preventative systems, inspection protocols, and maintenance discipline.

This proactive approach protects aircraft longevity, reliability, and safety.

Pilot Training & Crew Standards

Every Tropic Ocean Airways flight operates with an FAA-approved two-pilot crew—a standard we choose although it is not mandatory.

Our pilots are trained beyond regulatory requirements, with programs modeled on U.S. Navy operational and crew-resource standards, emphasizing discipline, situational awareness, and decision-making in complex environments. Pilots progress deliberately from right seat to left seat, ensuring depth of experience and continuity on the flight deck.

In-Cockpit Safety Procedures

Watch our flight crew perform real-world cockpit checklists prior to departure.

This behind-the-scenes video demonstrates the standardized procedures followed on every flight, reinforcing our commitment to communication, consistency, and safety.

In addition, our pilots have received Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Enhanced Medical Aviation training. This layered training model ensures consistent professionalism, depth of experience, and operational excellence on every flight.

Built for Amphibious Aviation

Flying safely in marine environments requires specialization—not adaptation. From corrosion prevention and in-house maintenance to two-pilot crews and advanced training standards, Tropic Ocean Airways is purpose-built for amphibious operations.

Every element of our operation is designed to deliver confidence, consistency, and peace of mind—on every flight.
