By the late 1900’s, key lime pie had become the ultimate Florida pie and was declared the official state pie in 1994. Now, key lime pie is a sought-after island dessert with a sweet yet tangy taste that is sure to be refreshing as you soak in the Florida sun.

 

Below we have listed two recipes; one is a traditional baked key lime pie and the other is a no-bake frozen key lime pie. Whether you are looking for a delicious dessert or a chilled summer treat, these pies are guaranteed to remind you of your island escape in the Florida Keys and have you longing to return.

 

Traditional Key Lime Pie

Ingredients:

  • 4 teaspoons grated key lime zest
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup fresh key lime juice
  • 9-inch graham cracker pie crust

 

Directions:

Combine condensed milk, egg yolks, and key lime juice. Blend until smooth. Pour filling into pie crust and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes. Allow to stand for 10 minutes before refrigerating. Just before serving, top with fresh whipped cream. Garnish with key lime or lime slices.

 

No-Bake Frozen Key Lime Pie

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup key lime juice
  • 2 8oz containers whipped topping
  • 9-inch graham cracker pie crust

 

Directions:

Beat cream cheese with mixer, or with a fork until smooth. Slowly add in granulated sugar. Pour in key lime juice, blending until smooth, then fold in 1 container whipped topping. Blend well. Using a spatula, spoon into graham cracker crust and smooth out. Freeze of chill around 4 hours or until desired. Top with whipped topping and garnish with key lime slices.
